Nicole Absher, Brooklyn wedding florist
We interviewed Brooklyn wedding florist, Nicole Absher, about her journey as a florist in New York City. Read on to learn more about Ephemera – flowers by Nicole Absher.

How did you get started?
Formerly a Painter, I arrived at floral arranging after seeking solace in New York City’s botanical gardens, visiting season after season, eagerly anticipating the next round of blossoms to display. Perhaps if I hadn’t moved to a Metropolis far from the woods I grew up in I would have never realized the importance of nature in my life without these impressionable moments in the gardens. A seed was planted and a mild curiosity grew into a passion and a new artistic means of expression formed around everything flower. I landed in a flower shop the West Village and worked my way from the bottom up to a position as Lead Designer and Management. After working there for seven years I began my own company and have been rocking it ever since.

How do you define your style?
Romantic, Edgy, Elegant, A strange combination of minimalism and maximalism. I love to make flowers lush, but I also love the opportunity to play with negative space. I want to create atmosphere from afar and intricate story details up close. For me it’s all about the sensation of color!
How would you describe your ideal client?
They are romantic at heart. They are generous, hardworking, and ambitious people not afraid to show gratitude and support for others. They are entrepreneurs, advocates, business people, mothers, fathers. Brides to be. They are optimist. They chose me, because they trust my vision and perhaps because beauty is food for the soul. And they are some of the most soulful people I’m lucky to have met.
What is the best part of a wedding day to you?
The people I’m creating for. And. Crying. Crying when you see a beautiful bride. Crying when you see a Groom crying. Crying when the family comes and thanks you. Crying when two women both get married in bridal gowns. Emotions are high at weddings. I always get a little teary when they are walking down the aisle.

Where do you find your inspiration?
I’d like to say I’m drawn to the other-worldly beauty of flowers. Sometimes the blooms are so perfectly formed they don’t seem real. I was informed by Ikebana, Art History and the Old Master Painters of the Dutch Golden Era. But ultimately I’m mused by the raw power of nature. The romantic in me wants to express and heighten flowers natural beauty and power.
Whats something unique about your brand?
I love color, especially red. Most people keep it safe with nudes and whites, but for me it’s all about color vibration. I also love dramatic baroque shapes. The more dynamic with motion the better, even if it looks like an explosion. Flowers are living sculptures and I’d like to them to very much look ALIVE.
Give us a fun fact about you!
I moved to NY skipping out on my return flight back home with $800 in my pocket. With my first paycheck I bought a plane ticket to visit NY and fell in love. It always seemed like destiny. Now I have flowered in the highest tower looking over the city.
